Instructor Training

At A2Z Driving Academy we attach great importance to instructor training. As the way we teach you will influence how you will teach in the future.

This can lead to a very rewarding career with potential earnings in excess of 30k and the ability to manage your own diary to fit in with your lifestyle.

Requirements
To become an instructor you need to be over 21 and have held a full licence for over three and a half years and have no more than 5 points on your licence. You will also need to complete a criminal records bureau check on your background.

Instructor Training Course

The instructor training course comprises of three sections.

1. The theory test of 100 multiple choice questions separated into four bands and a hazard perception test.the four bands are,
  • road procedure
  • traffic signs and signals, car control,pedestrians, mechanical knowledge
  • the driving test,disabilities and the law
  • publications and instructional techniques
The pass mark is 85% overall but in order to pass you need to achieve a minimum of 20 out of 25 in each section. If you fail one section you have to re sit the whole test.

The hazard perception test
You will be presented with a series of 14 video clips which feature everyday road scenes. In each clip there is one developing hazard except for one clip where there are two hazards. You need to respond to each hazard in the early stages of its development. The maximum score is 5. To pass you need to score 57 out of 75.

2. The test of practical driving ability.

You will be expected to drive for just over one hour on various roads including motorways and complete 5 manoeuvre scoring 6 or less driver faults.

3. The test of teaching ability.

This consists of two 30 minute phases where your examiner plays the role of a pupil.in the first phase the pupil is a beginner and in the second phase the pupil is partly trained.

So different teaching techniques are required for each section.

You can train at your own pace and fit your training in around your own job. The course has an allocation of 60 hours of training all of which is on a one to one personal basis. There will be no other students in the car which is the case with many other schools. All your training materials will be supplied. Also you will have 24 hour telephone support during the whole course. All the prices are exclusive of driving standards agency examination fees and extra training should that be required.
